Increasing demands on tools and machine components today require properties that can only be met by metal-matrix composites (MMCs). Ferro-Titanit® is the DSW brand name for powder-metallurgically produced, hard-phase-rich composites that are both machinable and hardenable.
The materials combine the advantages of tool steel and hard metal: highly wear-resistant, thermally stable and machinable with conventional equipment. A titanium carbide content of approximately 45 vol.-% in an alloyed steel binder phase delivers exceptional hardness and wear resistance while retaining good machinability in the as-delivered condition.

Three material groups for different stress profiles – from martensitically hardenable to highly corrosion-resistant austenitic.

The trend in plastics manufacturing is towards micro-pellets (approx. 0.5 mm). Smaller pellets shorten cycle times but place increased demands on die plates – with bore diameters down to 0.2 mm.
Nikrodur was developed specifically for this application and significantly extends the service life of modern pelletising systems.
